"I believe there is no need to go in great depth here since most of you interested in this product have already read SCW and
is one of you favorite GL stories! Other reviewers on this side have shown both video and a detailed content list so all I can say is: If you can afford it, get it! This is my first Absolute edition ever and it didn't disappoint.

About the missing one-shots! We all knew the contents of the book way before the release so we can't say we were fooled. Though the exclusion of the one-shots is a sad thing, and drops this edition from perfect to pretty darn great, this is still a masterpiece on its own. There is great deal of extras in the book compared to the TPB,sketches, scripts, tales of the Sinestro corps and a lot more. The production value of the book is superb, from the quality and presentation to the book binding. A+

SCW is one of the best, if not the best Green Lantern story ever. Collectors probably already have this edition on their shelfs. Its Christmas soon... Treat yourself to something nice!

Absolute Green Lantern The Sinestro Corps War Geoff Johns Dave Gibbons Peter Tomasi Drew Geraci Books Reviews

  • It’s hard to believe that Sinestro Corps War is nearly a decade old. I really enjoyed this event when it was first released and rereading it now it has stood the test of time. This came on the heels of Infinite Crisis, released in 2005/2006 and in some ways is its natural successor. Not surprising since both were the product of Geoff Johns. What I love about Sinestro Corps War is how huge and intense it gets. There is a ton of carnage, gore and blood but that alone wouldn’t draw me to the story. It’s all well-paced and very emotional. Johns creates perhaps the most devastatingly powerful collaboration of villains ever seen in DC comics. I’ll never forget the image of Sinestro and Kyle Rayner (possessed by Parallax) bowing down before Cyborg Superman, Superboy-Prime and the Anti-Monitor. This is one of the all-time great images in DC history. What Geoff Johns understands clearly is that it can only make the heroes look greater when their struggle is hardest and the villains here look like an unbeatable force.

I already own the Sinestro Corps War in the two volume hardbound books but I wanted the best version in existence and I don’t regret it in the least. Comparing the images in my two books to the Absolute Edition is like night and day. The images are so much larger and more vibrant. It’s like going from DVD to Blu-ray. If you’re a fan of Sinestro Corps War and you want a much better experience than what you get with the two volume hard cover books I highly recommend the Ultimate Edition.

I do have some small issues with the story. The storyline was interlaced between the Green Lantern comic and Green Lantern Corp but the two series were released simultaneously so the writing often overlaps. Everything is presented sequentially as the comics were published but you might have an event happen in an issue of Green Lantern and then when you read the Green Lantern Corp comic it hasn’t occurred yet. There is also a lot of different artists involved of varying degrees of skill. I always hold up Watchmen as the greatest comic mini-series of all time. It had one writer, one artist and one continuous storyline. The story by committee will always keep an event like Sinestro Corps War from reaching the highest potential.
  • I really wanted to give this book a 5 star review but I simply can't. It is supposed to be the Absolute Edition of the Sinestro Corp War but it is in fact only 2 volumes. The third was the Tales of the Sinestro Corp War (and GL featuring Ion). While some might say that is ok the various tales actually fill in some gaps left for these expansion tales.

Don't get me wrong, I love having the awesome over sized book with vol 1 & 2 together but when the first word is Absolute, I expect to get everything SCW in one book.

Still highly recommend this book (especially over TPB's).
  •  This, like my other Absolute reviews, 'unboxes' the book so you can get a good look at slipcase, dust jacket, hardcover, and special features. I also have a little rant at the end, making a counter point to the one star reviewer who felt that the omission of the supplemental Superman Prime one-shot was reason to dock so many stars off the rating. in short, they argued that the aforementioned one-shot contained an important part of the story and shouldn't have been left out. I argue that the one-shots were primarily to serve up back-story for the featured title villains, and have no impact on the main event. You could easily skip them and the only thing that you would miss is where Superman Prime's shirt went. Seeing as this event was the equivalent of 13 issues already, it is unreasonable to expect DC to package another hundred pages of supplemental back stories and side-battles. The story is complete, and MAN it is gorgeous in this format.

    Update
After more thoughtful consideration, i have decided to remove one star for the omission of the one-shots. I don't care too much for extra features, but i have now decided that i agree with the detractors, that the one shots wouldn't have been too much to ask. Regarding the page count The Absolute Sandman books were around 20 issues each, and neither felt too cumbersome and still maintained the same price tag. And since these books are printed in China, i refuse to believe that it would be too costly for DC to include the one-shots and NOT make a massive profit. I'm still happy with my purchase Absolute Editions give me more long-term enjoyment than any video games or Heroclix i collect, but I must concede that DC seems to be going cheap to pinch pennies.
  • seriously this is awesome it is large enough for you to pour over the art and find new things hidden in the backdrop, a central story to the GL mythos. Peter J Tomasi and Geoff Johns I think wrote the hell out of GL and GLC and it is nice to see their work meshed here. Overall a must have for a GL fan.
