My first grade twins loved this story. They found it suspenseful. Keenan says, "It's a fun book. My favorite part was when he had to follow the fish down to the stream." The illustrations are old fashioned four color paintings, which might not seem attractive to many adults, but in my experience as an elementary school librarian, this style doesn't seem to deter children.
The overall story concept here is great, and the illustrations are wonderful! I feel like the text itself could use some editing. There are some flow issues, grammatical errors, and there doesn't seem to be a clear conclusion. However, these are minor points when you consider that finding any persian stories written in the English language is near impossible. I also really love the pages in the back that talk about Persian Nowruz traditions.
I gave it to a student's family as a gift for nowruz and they were thrilled. I looked inside before giving it to them and the pages were bright colorful and beautifully designed.
the illustrations are better then most. there is an actual story and plot; beggers can't be choosers...
Really sweet book with pretty pictures and colors. Great for my little ones, especially because English-language Persian stories are hard to find!
Excellent book to read to my daughter's class. A fun story to talk about Norooz.
