Barron AP United States History 2nd Edition Eugene Resnick MA Books Reviews :
Barron AP United States History 2nd Edition Eugene Resnick MA Books Reviews
- One of the biggest problems with this book is how it's organized. The book groups events by topic, not by chronology. So you get the entire history of the environmental movement from 1900-1960, and then it starts you back at 1900 with immigration policy. This made it very difficult for me to follow and keep track of when in American history these events occurred. Furthermore, the book contains many details which I would deem unnecessary and irrelevant to the type of material covered on the APUSH exam. However, the biggest problem is in the sample tests. The Barron's sample multiple choice problems are far more difficult than the ones on the actual AP exam, and did not effectively prepare me for taking said exam. A better use of one's time would be to look at previous years' tests-- they're free, anyways.
- Same thorough and detailed text as the previous edition. All MCQs and essay instructions were revised to reflect new changes in APUSH exam. More practice exams. The text is formatted according to the "Key Concepts" of the CB. This is a huge +. Much improved vs. previous edition. Would benefit from more essay examples. These essays are in the 2010 edition of APUSH Barron's book.
- Used this for my CSET Social Science test and it was a humongous help. I'm not sure I would've passed without this. Can't speak to the AP exam, but I trust Barron's so I assume it would be even better for the AP exam.
- This book is the best way to study for the Ap US History Board Exam. I started reading this book to prepare for my exam and it is the best way for a crash course study. I picked up this book and the Princeton review, but this book was phenomenal in teaching an in depth understanding of the US History based on the Ap frameworks. I personally liked how each section related to a specific framework.
The author of this book has an well rounded knowledge of the AP US History curriculum and knows what parts to emphasize and which parts to skim over. The footnotes are very important and useful when reading the book. Eugene Resnick's formatting of the text sets the tone for making the book easily navigatable and easy to use.
I highly recommend this book to anyone preparing for the AP US History exam, this book does an amazing job at teaching the content of what is important. It is a quick read, I read it in a week, and a convenient review. - Man oh man... If you are a student in high school and you are wondering whether or not to buy the Princeton Review, Barrons, 5 Steps, etc. Trust me when I say that this book more than prepared me for the exam. Like most of you all I spent countless hours hitting up forums to find the "best" book and I can say with 100% certainty that this book more than prepared me for the exam. I answered nearly every question in class discussions and I felt extremely confident in myself after the Exam. I will be updating my review later with my score but seriously guys the Barron's book is definitely a good choice!
- This review book is absolutely 10/10. I don’t normally write reviews on things but this is actually really good. Barron’s does a great job at offering large amounts of quality information at a reading level that most all High School students can understand. The sentences are smooth and well-written to make reviewing history easy. Although I may be a bit biased being that I love US History, I would recommend this book to any other student preparing for the exam. Something that I like is that at the end of each Period, they have a section labeled “Subject to Debate†where they offer intuitive ideas that usually counter your own ideas and opinions about what happened in history. This offers insightful information that makes you think and it helps for retaining the knowledge of that time period. It’s great, buy it.
- 2 Major Complaints
- I do not like the fact that in a lot of the sections, the answers to the multiple choice questions are on the same page as the questions themselves. I know it's an easy fix on my part, but the bold answers are easy to see when trying to honestly answer the questions.
- It has a much more textbook feel to me than a review style book. It does a great job of relating big ideas and relating things to the test though.
Otherwise, it works great! - I took APUSH this past year and got this review book in May to study for the APUSH test. During the year, I studied from AMSCO which I found helpful for the short and concise summaries and review questions that were similar to the AP test format. I like this book because the summaries are more in depth than AMSCO. The summaries are good, however they can be confusing at times because sometimes they are not in chronological order. The book also comes several practice tests that were very hard but that probably prepares you well for the actual test.
