Ari When you’re young you think you know it all. I was fortunate enough to live in a world where poverty was just something I’d heard of, but never experienced. Until, I took a chance on the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. The chemistry undeniable. Our worlds collided and I fell hard, we both did. I needed him to stay and when he didn’t, it broke my heart. So I grew up and moved on. I didn’t know who I was back then, or what I was up against. But I do now. I won’t make the same mistakes. Torren I made mistakes, I thought I knew what I was doing. Turns out sometimes loyalty and stupidity go hand in hand. I took the one thing I needed most and I pushed her away with my actions. Sent her running in the opposite direction is more like it. When fate brings us together again, I desperately want to make things right, prove to her that I’m not that guy anymore. Time has done nothing to put out the fire between us, but she has no plans to let me be a part of her future. I’m about to change that.

- Just finished reading this book on the recommendation of a friend. It was so easy to
like these characters, I loved the anticipation of their delayed happily ever after. Couldn’t put this book down, can’t wait to read more from this new author! - There is not a lot better in life for a reader than discovering a new author and reading their debut novel. It’s always exciting, surprising and a big mystery of what this author stands for. After reading Devin Sawyer’s How Not To, I can easily say I’m intrigued in reading more of what she has to say.
In the beginning, this book starts out with her characters Arianne and Torren both very young. Having just graduated high school, Torren knows he wants more to life than working for his brother. Arianne wants more than the high society life her parents have planned for her. Each of these are separated by a clear division the town has drawn between the wealthy and those that work for the wealthy yet neither fits the mold. Drawn together, these two spend an incredible summer tiptoeing the boundaries of their relationship. Sawyer does a fantastic job of building up the tension, angst and hope for love between these two characters while also drawing us into their story of who they are individually making the transition into the last portion of the story effortlessly.
This is where she reels you in further with her second chance at love for these two. Forced to work together it’s clear to read that both Torren and Arianne never let their love die all those years ago. Their journey from puppy love to their second chance was a bumpy ride, but Sawyer made it worth my while.
I’m very excited that I discovered a new author with an interesting take on romance. Her funny side characters and interesting dynamics make me eager to read what is next. Clearly, Sawyer know how to write a book boyfriend with Torren. If you are searching for a new author to fall for, I highly recommend you take a chance with How Not To. - This is the debut novel of Devin Sawyer ... second chance romance, great writing style. amazing style ... fun tale become learning lesson for 2 kids ... growing into adulthood ... YA storyline (how is that decision made??!) ... u see how they grow into young adults ...how they were kind of dumb ... but taking responsibility. i was yelling no!! never understand why folks take a "i did it" moment ...when it was not their fault!! (hoping that make sense, i don't wanna give away anything, i want to keep it secretive but i want u get my review and i what i mean after you have read the book) not that we all have similar walks in life ...but u can sort of sympathize or see your own life in this one ... right? i mean we are all in similar dating situations ... good girl - bad boy ... or so it seems??! Arianne and Torren. a past to present read. an HEA ending for sure. I will be curious where Devin will head next ... look forward to reading more from her. I see I'm sort of similar to others ... I wanted Ari to stand tall, stand up for what she believes and wants, she is apart of this relationship, get together, whatever u wanna call their friendship, kniship, whatever it is?!? ... she kind of let Torren walk all over her ...but I guess that happens. ... but I want girls this day and age to have the guts to stand up and say what they feel and what they want from a relationship ... have a clue in what sex and can be ... what it can be ... if u make the decision to do it when ever u do that ... it should be a decision u want. not what he wants ... u make the decision. i have my religious beliefs ...but heck i am not a mother and i am not going to judge .. u as a person have to make your own decision. i think we all need to allow people to that ... if u r a mother or father ... u help ur kids make the backbone to make those important decisions. just saying. must read ... can't wait to see what Devin Sawyer does next??! enjoyable at times ... hard to read at others ... such a sticky hard time to see Torren go through. & i wish that relationships were easier at times ... why we can't just be honest ... why the secrets??
- Devin Sawyer stumped right off the bat and as her debut book she released a story so full of emotions that it was hard to shake it off. How Not To is a tribute to youthful love. It’s also a hope for unfulfilled dreams. This book is a heartbreak but also a balm for a wounded soul.
Ari is a girl from a good home. During the holidays she started working in her father’s company as an accountant. Torren, in turn, is a boy from the wrong side of the tracks who works in his brother’s garage. As the finances in the garage do not match, Torren is looking for a person who’ll solve the problem. And that’s how he finds Ari. Their acquaintance developed from meeting to meeting, until finally a feelings emerged between them. But as soon as they discovered the strength of their feelings, everything ended so quickly because one night changed everything.
After eight years Ari and Torren meet again. This time fate made them co-workers. But how to do it if so much happened between them? Will achieving forgiveness be the closure of their relantionship? Or maybe they can achieve a happy ending this time? To find out you must read this book.
I would never guess that How Not To is Devin Sawyer’s debut book. It’s damn well written and keeps you in suspense. The author perfectly poured on the paper all the emotions of the main characters because I suffered right with them. There is only one thing that bothers me and that’s Ari’s character. Where Torren is a really great hero whom I have great affection for, Ari just got on my nerves. There were moments when I wanted to slap her on the forehead. She wasn’t a likeable person for me. Fortunately the whole plot and Torren’s character made it up for meÂ
I will definitely reach for the author’s next books!
